These works are an investigation on how traces resulting from material manipulation may lead to a reevaluation of materiality and its effects on us and our surroundings. It especially focuses on how matter energy, a degree of vitalism inherent in materiality, and memory, the capability of storing and emitting trace energies, influence and shape each other.
The traces resulting from this reciprocal energetic exchange recount the story of an occurred incident between the past and the present, opening up a dialogue on the interconnectedness of action, reaction and effect. Working with material encounters through a process driven methodology, a body of work is created that reflects on the thematics of mark making and the energetic imprint any human or nonhuman agent produces. The objective of the project is thereby to create works that function as sensory bridges between the observer and materiality to trigger a sense of connectivity and relatedness.
Exploring how material memory can evoke embodied energies and how the body experiences visual tactility in objects through these energies, constitutes the central research in my investigation of understanding different aspects of materiality and the contemporary methods necessary to bring forth its distinct vibrancies.
